Why a Seat Ibiza Replacement Key Won't Work

Take off the battery compartment cover on the key fob (A). Using a flat-head screwdriver or a thumb nail, pull the cover upwards, then replace the CR2025.
Dead Coin Battery
If your key fob has stopped functioning and you're not capable of reprogramming it with the latest code, the most likely cause is a dead battery in the coin. Replace it and you'll be able to make it operational once more - you can do it yourself in less than 10 minutes.
Open the key first by removing the metal rings. There's a clip-on lid, which you can lift open using your nail. The old battery is then pulled through the hole in the middle. Note: If you replace the battery incorrectly, or with a battery that is not suitable, it can harm the remote. Always replace the battery with one that is the same size, voltage and specifications as the original.

This must be addressed immediately because exposure to water may damage the chip's electronic circuit and cause your key fob to stop working.

The key fob also stops functioning if the buttons are worn out. This is also a simple fix and only requires you to swap the old key shell with an entirely new one.
It is essential to replace the battery of the button cell correctly otherwise the key fob could be damaged. It is recommended to always make sure you use a new battery that is the same size, voltage, and specification. It's also important that the side of the new battery is in the direction of upwards.
The key fob is protected by rubber seals, which should keep water out. However, submerging the key fob in water could cause the seals to break and damage the chip inside. This is usually the case if you accidentally drop your key fob into the pool or leave it in the rain. If the key fob won't function after replacing or reprogramming it and the receiver module could be in trouble.
Water Damage
The key fob's rubber seals that prevent water from reaching the chip inside. It is not enough to stop the occasional splash. If your pet has been through a wash or swimming in the ocean, it could have damaged the chip.
This can be resolved by removing the battery, and then cleaning the chip using isopropyl or electronic cleaner. Let it dry completely before placing it back. If the chip has been damaged it will need to be replaced with a brand new one.

Faulty Receiver Module

To change the battery on your key fob you will need the thumb nail or screwdriver that has a flat head to break open the cover of the button cell compartment (B). Remove the old battery and then insert an CR2025 replacement battery, making sure the "+" polarity of the battery is directed upwards.
